@Gordoncourtney I like the look of the Swiss rifle. What sort of projectile did they shoot?

They are different. Ha ha. The modern martini 1880 ones are 7.5 -53 brass ( modern 7.5-55 brass fits. .308 ) Very accurate 1900 ft sec 2 grove ( some 2009 are 3 grove nitro 2400 ) They was the same as the previous BP 10.4mm martini Steel martini parts was made at Enfield gun
works uk as English threads , got 2 around £1200 each

Prior to that in 1861 the Swiss government wanted a new ml rifle the Felstutzer it’s on utube look up ml rifles our Hungarian friend. All the butts are very curved and shot off the arm ie one handed if desired , The rough one at holts went for around £600 I have a fascination for them. The muzzle 10.4 loaders of 1835 we accurate to 300 yards with various 10.4mm patched bullets v but an earlier theme of the 7,5 s above , that’s why I mention them auction over photos. But do look it up on utube

The engraved one I found has not come up at auction yet Needs work Second photo I wanted £1100 on the hammer plus 30% buyers commission

Was able to shoot from a bench at the range Sunday and added a Wayne’s Dog leather & canvas recoil pad over steel butt plate to help with recoil on my 73-year-old shoulder. Extended stock an inch and seems to have helped accuracy with my .50 Renegade. First time I used new pad along with recently added Williams FP-Hawken peep sight and a Lyman 17AMI front globe. Put 19 of 20 prb’s in the red on targets. Not sure I’m capable of shooting any better with these eyes. Time will tell if I just had a really exceptional day target shooting, or I just got lucky.

Just finished the test on the copper foil. Short version of the analysis is that it's difficult to work with compared to the aluminum.

First off, let me say that the manufacturer says to punch a cap and then slide the material in the tool to punch the next. So none of the material I've punched can be easily and smoothly slid through the tool. Not the single pop can, not the double pop can, not the aluminum in the post above but especially not the copper foil!! It's too soft and the edges seem to follow the punch down into the tool. It's ery sticky and needs to be worked to free it up. The aluminum can be a bit sticky too but it's tolerable and I can work with it twice as fast as the copper.

That said, the caps are very nice but no better than the aluminum. I expect that they will both function well on the gun but I'm going to charge these two batches and compare at the range.

Notice how much more ragged the copper is along the edge compared to the aluminum.

I found the same using .005 copper. Harder to slide but nice caps. Takes a while to get used to.

Yes, they do have a better look than the aluminum. I haven't had a chance to test the copper caps or the aluminum sheet caps. Once I've tried them I'll do a post on it.

@Gordoncourtney great pictures and history 👌

I was more thinking of the relationship between the .41 muzzzleloaders and the Vetterli cartridge .41.

I'm familiar with the 7.5. At one time I had four of the k-31 and three Vetterlis. Just the one K31 now for occasional hunting use.

The Vetterli straight pulls are cheap and plentiful more in modern style of bullet , well documented on google They made a 10.4 in the earliest martini, had one of those

See Holts auctioneers Norfolk Uk. Last day of auction. If you are quick on auction schedule you will see items with sold prices but add 30% buyers commision

The K31 is a brill rifle handling a modern charge. Lugs in breach The earlier one had a habit of bending the long bolt. K31 is S1 police cert in uk for ranges only , Police won’t give me a cert at 80 indeed they took away my shotguns as I might shoot intruders …….you are not allowed to shoot criminals in uk. They have human rights when robbing you !!!! I am ok with most obsolete rifles The k31 a modern bullet the 10.4 a big blob of lead., Nasty if hit by one Always collecting mainly at holts auction, getting better at making walnut stocks on cheap damaged ones, just done an 1850 8 bore It pisses the wife off , she hates guns , so do my kids. I love hunting But can only shoot a deadly accurate bsa Scorpio but knocks heads off squirrels and rabid. Super to chat. Love from west of London

Since the previous thread was shut down (locked) by our new moderator, I thought I would start one up again, as per the suggestion.
So, let's get this thread going again, and share your muzzleloading related adventures of the day!
Received my new Uberti 1860 Army via FedEx today. Got her cleaned up for the range

Ha. You always remember your first pour into a muffin pan! :D How tentative I was when I first did that. You did good, Kipawa17. You did good. Takes a while to cool down, hey?

Pete
i use a cornbread pan the cast iron one that looks like corncobs, my lead is in 65# ingots from the smelter

Today I paid $21 for 100 Remington Caps at Dixon's. Greg was apologetic about the high price.
I've only got one caplock, a .32 CVA Varmint that does its job very well, but I have to feed it. I think I need to look around at flea markets, swap meets, etc to see if I can find any that way.
Friday it will be on the range.

Took my SMR down to clean. Don’t know how but it was rusted up inside. Took it a part to clean. Oil was still over some of the parts but rust on the others. Anyhow on the trigger assembly (Kibler) there was a spring? laying loose in the trigger assembly. Straight with a bend on each end? Any ideas?

Rumors started flying about Wally World stocking CCI caps for $5.32 per tin. I went to four of them today… heard from one employee that they hadn’t “set“ that display up yet, but would be on Friday. The fourth Wally’s had their display “set” already and I scored some for $5.62 per tin in middle TN…. So don’t give up! It actually took some hard looking to find ‘em where I did.

Made in the U.S.A.

Handy hint…. The display that’s being replaced with shooting stuff is the kids life jackets…

Maybe talking about blackpowder guns counts. I spent 1 1/2 talking to a forum member about tuning my pietta 58 nma. Throughout the conversation I wished I could have recorded his comments for others to hear. I was left with a far better understanding than any pamphlet or video could ever convey.
