Storms coming this after noon........Good , maybe I can get this .50 longrifle barrel into the browning box. Don't like it when too many manure sandwiches take away m/l building time. Been that way all winter. Think I had more time when I worked for a living. Sorry for the whining session. I feel better now.........
last time i apologized to the Scot woman for whining, she told me if i wasn't whining she would arrange my funeral, because she would know i was dead!

Last Sunday I hit the range with my rebarreled Dixie Mountain Rifle

It was a great day

I was at my Dad’s this morning. I have a .50 calibre CVA Mountain Rifle kit that I bought for $100.00 back in the 80’s.

Kit is complete, and will be a summer project for me in a couple months. I was very surprised to actually see some curl in the stock, I always thought these guns were strait grain beech.

So yeah, I think this will be fun. My Grandkids will get it…someday.

So then my Dad dug out one of his many ole muzzleloader kits that he bought back in the mid 80’s

The kit is complete, and at one point it looks like he had inlet a patchbox into the stock.

Just back from the Louderback Rhondy. Ran the shotgun events Fri and Sat . We had ML , BP cartridge and doubles competition. Sat my wife and I also ran the PeeWee Long Gong. This was held on an out of the way ranch that measures in many square miles.
Doc,

I like shooting 480’s.
I do too.
I still have 600-700 left from well over 5000 I poured a few years ago.
My 6 cavity .480 mould is almost junk & I'm still pouring from it.
I have to use a rock tumbler to get all the ball sprues rounded out for decent shooting.
I have 1000's of .490's, but rarely shoot them.
The are too much trouble to load for plinking.

Ordered a few things from October Country. Their business is for sale. Owner retiring. Hope somebody keeps it going.
thinking about it. trying to figure out how to run it without moving to CDL.
i polished brass on my pistol, shot it and started a new batch of BP. down to stems and seeds in the powder department. been shooting more than i thought.

You probably have an earlier kit that came with an American maple stock.

I remember it was a close-out special. I thought I got it a few years after high school…so early to mid-80’s. The cost was right around $100.00….so like $97.00 or $98.00…

But yeah…the stock has about 40% to 50% curl…and real nice figure. So, once I get this built, it’ll be nice to have a Mountain rifle again.

I sorted out dozens of taps and dies. Tested my machined block and hammer with a cap Warm sunny day uk.

Got out and shot my .32 rifle this morning and its still dead on at 50 yards, switched over to the Colt .36 Navy and the wind was howling! Heck, I'm not that steady on a calm day anymore, but I kept a respectable group none the less, had to cut it short with that wind which leaves me hungry for more. Could 'a swore I saw an old lady in a rocking chair wave as she flew by, might have been a Chinook, not sure.
