When purchasing cotton fabric at a fabric store, does washing the sizing out change the thickness of the fabric. For example if some cotton drill was .020" when measure compressed in a mike or calipers in the store, would it still be roughly .020" after washing? Not going to quibble over .001" but .005" would be a problem.

edit- I'm worried that it might get thinner after washing but I really don't know.

The fabric will get softer and will hold more lube. It also will compress a bit more if you squeeze the measuring tool with greater force than what you did before you washed the fabric. The amount of compression is in direct relationship to the force applied. Try it for yourself and see what results you get :dunno: :ghostly::ThankYou:

Uhm, washing "fluff's" the fabric for lack of a better word, so the soft measurement is larger,
BUT, the compressed fabric measurement stays the same.
Compressed is what happens when you seat the ball in the barrel,,
Purchase what you like with a compressed measurement and wash that sizing out with no worries, đź‘Ť
