I'd say that Zonie's estimate of 120 to 180 hours is about right. Just where you fall in that range will depend on how fast you work and how much carving you do on the stock. A nice plain rifle will be in the lower end of the estimate while a nicely carved stock will be at the upper end or more. Just how long it takes you is not the thing to think about, it is the journey that you must enjoy. Take your time and be sure of what you are doing and do everything in the correct sequence. Be meticulous in your work and if you feel yourself getting tired or wanting to rush to get it finished, it is time to put your tools down and come back tomorrow. Always keep in mind the final product of your labors. The gun that you build may well become a family heirloom and in the years to come, you want your descendants to look at your work with pride. :hatsoff:
