I finally completed and got to shoot my NW trade gun. What a blast! I only shot at 25 yards, but it held a pretty tight group with the first load I tried. After I work up a round ball load, I will try shot. This was my first experience with a drilled touch hole as opposed to a liner, while ignition was fast enough it is pretty fussy about cleaning the hole before every shot. I never tried a Davis lock before either, but this thing works great! I had so much fun I just had to tell about it!

What's the caliber / barrel length on yer new weapon, Trot? Does TOTW make a left-handed version?

Hey Trot,
Try something I read about in a bp mag 30 years ago. When you have seated the ball take your pick and drill a hole into the charge powder all the way across to the steel wall on the other side. Then prime your pan and push some priming into the hole leaving the hole through the wall clear. Push the priming all the way into the charge. Don't pack it, just spread a bit in there. The priming will catch faster than the charge powder and will serve to ignite the charge with a good hot flash and a little pressure. In some guns it makes a dramatic difference in ignition time. In my twelve gauge flinter (sold now) it made the difference between always lighting and sometimes lighting.
God bless.

I found the NW gun a very comfortable gun to shooy, mine was a .62 but if I ever make another one it will be in the PC .58 bore, I sold a .58 chiefs grade gun to a fella a while back and he has been tearing up the trail walks with it, kind of depresing when a guy shoots one of your guns better than you ever did.(VBG)

Thanks for the tip, I will have to try that on my next outing. Mine is .62 cal 42 inch barrel. Track does not exactly have a left handed version, but they do sell the stock with no lock mortise cut so you can inlet a left handed lock if you wanted to. I have to say I like the Track kit, not terribly difficult but they leave you with enough work to give you a sense of accomplishment.

volatpluvia, I tried your suggestion, 100% ignition! Thanks again, and good shooting.
