Looking at old strikers from way back I noticed a lot of blacksmith made them different styles and shapes. Some are down right fancy dancy. I wonder if it was because they just wanted to show off their skill on the anvil. ? Or they just got bored. Anyhow I forged this snake style striker yesterday. Not usually lethal, but not long ago a boy jumped in a local lake and was bitten by several of them. He died right there.

that is so sad! I thought that the water snakes were called WATER MOCCOSENS? or BLACK RASERS? both non poisoness. I did not know that a COTTON MOUTH was deadly but as you said many biting you would be fatal.

Water Moccosens and Black Racers are NOT THE SAME!!!
Black Racer: friendly, non-venomous
Water Moccasin: VENOMOUS

I have kept both, you can handle the Racer, Don't Pick Up the Moccasin!! (also called Cotton Mouth)

from experience the bite does hurt, and the anti venom injections were taken repeatedly over 24 hours in both arms and other parts! That was not a pleasant experience!
