This is a 45 cal target rifle. Obviously american made since it has a Golcher lock. Quality carving and old style checkering. There is no makers name on it. The disc on the wrist is not a peep sight. It is a eye focusing disc that creates a clearer view of the rear sight. Anyone else seen anything like it?

I've never seen a disc attached directly
to the weopon. I have seen smaller ones that are attached
to the shooters glasses. I've tried it and it does help. :results:

There's a wheellock at the Frazier Arms Museums that also has a focusing disc. As to the gun, it doesn't appear to be a military type schutzen that were popular in the ante-bellum period as they had some means of affixing a bayonet.
