We arrived to the very, very large cut corn field around sunrise. I decided to drive inwards around 250 yards to where two canal ditches formed a 90 degree angle. I set up my Mojo (battery operated decoy) and clipped two regular decoys onto corn stalks and bent them to allow the decoys to be perpendicular with the ground. From about 7 a.m. till 8 a.m. I had at least 100 birds try to land on the decoys. I watched too many videos about "lead" and was shooting in front of them. When they are 20 yards from you in a helicopter position, just put the bead on them! I was dropping shot, cards, and powder in all the excitement.
When I got home, I loaded and shot a cardboard box to find a large hole in the middle of my pattern. I loaded with "half" a lubed wad, and the hole disappeared. This is one reason I missed so many along with too much lead.
Today, I'm gonna further my pattern testing. And tomorrow, me and just my dad are heading back to the exact location. God I love hunting!
