I gonna assume this nose cap is pretty much unusable with the gaps on the sides? Gap is same on both sides and seems to be slightly cocked.

Hi,
Gently squeeze it in a vise until the sides press up against the barrel then file the octagon in the front to fit. If the soldered front breaks free, just use the sheet brass body and solder on a new front fitted to the barrel. There should be no gaps on the sides or front.

Hi KK,
Believe me when I say I've done that many times. I don't use commercial castings or sheet brass muzzle caps much anymore unless required because I can fit a sheet brass cap of my own making so much easier than a prefabbed one. I am glad my suggestion worked for you.

I had the exact opposite problem The sheet metal cap for my full stock Hawken fit perfectly at the muzzle end, but was very much too narrow at the rear. Had to mount the cap over the jaws of my vise and gently expand the sides until parallel. Seems like poor quality control on the manufacture's end to me.
