This post pertains the Pre-1840 moccasins that would have been worn by the mountain men. I am told most of them used a pucker toe type moccasin and that some of the pucker toe designs had a center seam. Most of the sketches show a rather small toe and as I understand it, this toe was often dyed red and had a single row of white pound? beads around it. I have tried a few patterns, one that was straight across the top created a really pointed toe. Another design had a cut off of this pointed toe but then there was a sideways seam inaddition to the center seam. I also seem to get a lot of wrinkles but I have seen photographs of finished moccasins without many wrinkles??? Is the leather soaked and stretched to take out the wrinkles? All advise welcomed.
