My go-to is bear grease and bees wax 50/50. I also have mink.

No vegetable oil for me thanks.

This forum is a bizarre combination of ill-tempered know it alls and some genuine people that seem to enjoy the sport and contribute.

I dont see genuine people posting poor info as productive.

Must have up-set some moderator seems my one post on the topic of Vaseline was deleted due to un-necessary something or the other, guess were going woke here also. This one will probably be deleted also. This is the second post in perhaps a month that got squashed in over the years since being here. Perhaps some explanation would be appreciated, nothing was really out of line, looks like the climate change is having its effects on more than the weather. One you fellas suddenly developed a dis-like for humor or something. If you're going to delete a post that's fine at least send a P.M. with a better explanation other than a few words in the recent posts section.

Vaseline is designed to make it easier to handle the checkout when buying Blackthorn 209. Works great, doesn't hurt nearly as bad as without it. 😁

I've used Ballistol (mineral oil, mostly) as a patch lube before. Never had any issues. Not rust, or fowling, there was, in my opinion, no discernible difference with Ballistol over a "proper" patch lube.

Maybe someone shooting MOA accuracy at 300 yards might be able to tell, but at 150 yards or less, it works just fine.

The times we're having in many states in this year,, are a might dry,, thing's be different then they was..
The grass is tinder, it just needs a spark, nothing more an "poof", flame.
Aye. Just never seen a patch smoulder with my lube. Paper on its own yes. Card was, thin yes. Wet thin card with my lube, no.
Not that I know of.

I was watching the flinters shoot the woods walk last fall and saw several large sparks hook right out of the barrel and go straight into the leaves... didn't start a fire but if it was out west it certainly could have.

Iv never known a lubricated patch to smoulder, have you?
Yes, on numerous occasions. Some clubs even recommend switching to spit patches for Monthly Shoots and Rendezvous in the summer.

I've also heard that Linen works best this time of the year over Cotton. The reason was given but am currently having a Senior Moment.

When it's THIS hot, you'd better be extra careful!
