I found a copy of a book titled "Black Powder Plainsmen: A beginners guide to Muzzle loading and Reenactments of the Great Plains" by Randy Smith.

What are your opinions of the book?

Never heard of it, but (IMHO) it certainly doesn't sound like primary documentation.

But according to the synopsis on Amazon it apparently does contain at least some primary documentation. Sounds interesting for those interested in the subject and used copies are available for less than $6.00 bucks so it may be well worth it albeit some of the reviews state some of the data regarding repro arms is a bit dated, but that's pretty common with older books. http://www.amazon.com/The-Black-Powder-Plainsman-Muzzleloading/dp/0882904493

Another option is to get a copy to read via Interlibrary Loan through you're local library .

Read it ,,, what have you got to lose?????? If your looking for all the "Alphabet" reading, pc/hc mouse, omg lsmft,,Maybe not, don't know havn't read it YET..
Where did you find it,,I want to read it..I read three books at a time, one, get bored, switch and go again.

I found it on ebay. I bought a copy and am currently reading it. I admit that a few statements by the author got me thinking the guy is a little wrong, but for the most part it's a good read.

He did state that the Traditions models are good for reenactments and he repeated the debunked statement that Traditions guns are sanctioned by the made up Muzzle Loaders group. I don't remember the whole thing but I know it's been debunked on here that Traditions have been given the thumbs up on being very authentic.

So far, it's a good book though. I'm up to chapter four.
