So received this beautiful rifle that seems not to have been fired much. Serial number in the mid 25K.

After some research it appears the date is in a box, but mine has no box, but there are symboles to the right, which to me do not appear to be Roman numerals.

Also there is a 55 stamped on the underside of the tang and the underside of the nippel assembly.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Dave for the reply. I actually meant the symbols on the left, but I did not know how to edit my original post.

Every reference I looked at the date is on the left and in a box.

Those symbols do not look like Xs and the similar-U next to them just doesn’t make since.
