The first time I ever had grits was in New York city. No joke, went into a small diner way downtown and when she brought me my eggs they were served with grits. Whats that? Says I, its grits she says, oh ok.
Anyway I only cook em when I make shrimp and grits. They get cooked in chicken stock, lots of salt pepper cheese and butter. Not heart healthy but tasty.

Grits are very bland, as in lacking flavor, so it must be the texture that is off putting to some.
Shrimp and grits, that’s a dish fit for kings. Add lots of butter, cheese and various herbs and spices to the grits. The grits are just a vehicle to carry it all. 😁
To your point, grits are the medium to hold lots of butter!

I pretty much eat grits or oatmeal for breakfast all year long. Half and half and sugar is my go to way of choice
I love grits. Being from the south, I always have them in my cupboard. Butter, salt and pepper. Milk and sugar are a Yankee thing. Oatmeal though, YUK!! Feels like snot on my mouth to me. Could never get past that. Semper Fi.
