I made this bag axe out of a old shingle axe or some might call a shingle hammer.Cut the head down and hafted it with Osage Orange. In the picture is the type of head I used.Wood and steel free. All it cost was a couple of hours of sweat equity.Hope some you can use this idea. Thanks

I like it and I think you did a great job with it!!! Practical and repurposed...the same as what they would have done in the past.:applause: What are the dimensions of the axe and what does it weigh? Are you going to make a second one with the other head? Did you work the Osage green or dry? :idunno:

Bretwalda, the head is 5" long, the blade is 1 3/4" high.It weighs 14 oz.,but could lighter by shortening the poll or blade. On my blade I just cut the pole down by a inch. The pole head is 1"x1".The handle is 9" long and it was dry when I worked it.A friend gave me some pieces from his bow building business.By the way this is not my idea,I saw it in a Muzzleloader magazine years ago.I find these shingle axes all the time at sales for 50cents to a dollar.Only good thing I can see to make out of them.Got some flooring from the local school gym when they put a new floor down,so I have plenty of nice maple to make handles for these heads in the future.May not be HC/PC,but the price is right!
