My name is Tim and I am a lurker. I haven't posted on here much but I have a couple of questions that I figure some of you fellas know the answers to. So this quaundry has brought me to the keyboard.

I recently traded for a kit rifle that was mostly finished. I stripped it down and have been personalizing it.

On a T/C hawken: Is the face of the breech flat,or convade?

Is there a way to find out the date the barrel was made, and if T/C made it in shop, of other? The barrel # K142430

Sorry if this has been hashed before,I did a search but came up empty.

Thanks.

In case no one said it, Welcome to the Forum. :)

As Mike said, your TC's breech plug has a smaller than bore size hole running back into it.
Some folks call it a Patent breech but a more proper term would be a "chambered" breech.

In any case this hole runs back into the breech block a ways. A smaller hole is drilled at an angle to connect the chamber with the nipple hole.

As for the age of your gun, your kinda out of luck.
Years ago TC had a fire that destroyed many of its records and the Hawkens serial numbers were among the lost data.

On the other hand, I have a rifle similar to yours.
It is a kit TC Hawken in .54 caliber and when I bought it it still had the original bill of sale with it.
It was sold in 1978 and the serial number is K237XXX.

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for the replies. I kinda figured it was as such. The bore looks very good other than that last little bit down there in the breech,at least as far as my light and tired eyes can see.I ran a pipe cleaner in and figured out how the hole was.Now I know.

I don't think this gun has been fired, and the previous owner said it was an early 80's kit. I figure the "K" has something to do with the age?

Thanks again.

Ott, ditto Zonie welcoming you to the forum. :hatsoff:

The "K" prefix designates the arm as a kit-build. The factory-built firearms do not have the "K" prefix.

Thanks for the replies,Always learning.

I polished and polished till I got the bore looking like a mirror all the way to the breech.

Got it all buttoned up,and ready for her first round at the targets. maybe this afternoon.I'll let ya know how she shoots.

Thanks.
