I have played some with dry wads over the powder on rifle hunting loads, and they worked just fine...but I have not tried any of the wonder wads. Black powder revolvers have never been my thing, or I probably would have experimented more with wads. I occasionally hunt with a .62 smoothbore, and have used paper wads as well as hornet nests to cover the powder with positive results.
I have a match to shoot this weekend, and will try out the drop tube thing then to see if it is something I want to continue. Unfortunately the weatherman says we will be hitting 102 degrees on Sunday....so it should be a trial for us.
