Hey, Guys.

I was able to attach a tang to that old 20ga shotgun barrel I posted about last week.

Can someone please point to some really good resources for laying out and roughing out a half stock for the barrel.

The craftsmanship I can handle. Getting started in the right direction is much needed though.

Many thanks.

This is the first video of a series that shows every step of building a half stock rifle.

Thank you, Sir.

I have oodles of metalworking tools. I noticed your selection of woodworking chisels. Can you also recommend a set of chisels that will get me started? Not fancy scroll work chisels, but utility chisels for heavy/medium stock wood removal and inletting.

I'm a buy one cry once type of person. But I don't want to ball like a two year old if you get my meaning.

Your help is appreciated.

Best chisels to start with would be a few small to medium size straight chisels. A few skew chisels are also very useful. Next would be a 90 degree V chisel with each side being slightly smaller than the width of the barrel flats. A couple curved chisels with medium sweep and size are nice to have. Pfeil chisels from Woodcraft are the best. The chisels that Track of the Wolf sells are pretty good and half the price. Go with Pfeil if you can afford it. Cheap chisels are just a waste of money. All chisels are useless if you don't have good sharpening stones. DMT diamond sharpening stones are really nice but you can get other good ones for less money.
