Gemmer GPR question

I don't know why but I DO NOT like the ram rod retention spring or the cut out in the rib.Have any of you went so far as to soldering a new rib to get rid of this eye sore? I guess the pipes would need replaced to if they have the access hole for the screws. I've soldered one rib lately and it turned out perfect. Requires some clean up though.

I just took it off and made a full stock hawken out of it.

I can't see it when I hold the gun to shoot it so, I just put it out of my mind.
