I purchased a used .45 caliber Hawken barrel. The sight mounting screws were stripped. I tried to re drill and tap the blind holes to #8-40. I got one hole tapped correctly with about 3 or 4 threads deep and fuzzed the other one up completely. I want o mount a red dot sight for load development and testing and because my 81 year old eyes do not work as well as they should. I am considering just mounting the base with the one screw and some epoxy or JB weld. Any suggest as to what to use or how would be welcome. I have heard that Locktite makes a adhesive that is used to mount shotgun ribs. I assume I can get it back off with heat. Is that correct? I had to unsolder the sight that was mounted over the original botched holes and assume epoxy will require less heat to remove than solder if I want to take it off. So my questions is will this work and/or is there a better suggestion? It is a kit barrel with poor blueing but the bore looks perfect.
