Bought this 5 or 6 years ago thinking it was old; I don't really think it is old anymore, too nice of condition and the "patina" doesn't quite look like on my old guns. It has copper washers, crisp snap, and very sharp, a little file work on top, no markings. Does anyone recognize the maker? More importantly, is this knife appropriate for 18th century, English and/or French? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

It looks French and could be older than you think--I'd have to see it close up first hand. It is like many 18th century clasp knives. Perhaps they are still being made somwhere in the world? What kind of wood is it?
