Haven't seen a flint or cap double gun but wondered how the breech area was designed. I have two shotgun barrels from Gun Parts Corp and wondered how to connect them. How were the barrels attached to each other or were they not connected? With sidelocks I could imagine that the breach area could be quite wide. When the locks and hammers could sit behind the barrels like they did with cartridge guns that must have allowed the breach area to be thinned out. Did the early doubles use two breach plugs and tangs? Were the tangs doglegged? Does anyone have pictures or a link to diagrams? Thanks, GC

You might look into buying the book, Recreating the Double Barrel Muzzleloading Shotgun by W.R. Brockway. That will answer alot of questions.

These may not be of any help, but I'll get some picture sendin practice.

Thanks Jimet - Is that gun rifled? What can you tell about it? Who made it? I just got the thought that I should look at some patent drawings for double guns. GC

Howdy.GC. Take a look under the Percussion forum, under "greenhorn needs info". Good luck with your project.Be cool to see pics at each phase when you get started.Later,Jim
