I would like to try conical bullets in my Pietta 1851 Colt Navy, Pietta 1858 Remington and Uberti Colt Walker (all are steel framed).

I just want to try the conicals and don't have the time or inclination to cast my own. I see that Buffalo Bullets is not in business.

Any recommendations on where I can purchase cast conicals for my revolvers?

Thanks!

Dixie Gun Works is your best source but unfortunately it looks like they have cut back on what they offer. You might ask one of the CS folks if they have conicals not listed because that may be the case.
The "New" conicals look sort of like a wadcutter but they are not PC. The original conicals were tapered with a really short base. As a result of the short base- they could twist out of alignment as you rammed them into the chambers- not good for accuracy. Elmer Keith, the famous gun writer, also thought the pointed conicals didn't do as well on game as an old fashioned round ball with the sprue- the flat sprue being forward- sort of a semi-wadcutter.
As far as I can tell the conicals were really used for combustible cartridges- most likely because they were able to have a rebated base to attach the cartridge shell.

There's a guy in Hagerstown that sells them in .451 diameter.
Individual conicals in the original pattern as described for a nickle each.
Do you ever get up this way?

Where exactly? I'm going backpacking in that area and would love to go to a blackpowder shop if possible.

He's more of a regular gun shop than a BP specialist, but he does have lots of RB & conicals in the 44 caliber, maybe others as well I've only ever asked for the 44s.
Do you know Buds on the North side?

I cast Lee mold conicals for my '58 Rem and ROA. right now I'm in short supply as this fall's camping trips I shot most all I had on hand.
I'll try to notify you when I cast more of them and can send you some for a small charge$.
I sent Smokin'50 and Rebel some as well as 2-Bellys and they praised them, I prefer them most times.

I'm not familiar at all with Hagerstown. I probably can't go anyway since they are most likely closed on Sundays. Can I get an address anyway? Thanks

Thanks!! Do let me know when you've cast a bunch. I am happy to pay to have you send me some!!

I do get up to Antietam every couple of months (it's about a 90 minute drive). Do you have name/phone number/address?

Thanks.

I swear I had his business card here, then I went looking for it & it was a "wentaway" :rotf:
I'll make sure to pick one up as I have to go there next week anyway. I'll post the info then for you.

Leave some RB's for me when you're done pillaging him of all his conicals. :v

I honestly don't know if he does, or is interested in mail order. If he isn't contact me & I'll see if I can act as middle man for you collecting from him & mailing for you when I go in to visit him.
