I have a Colt "Signature Series" 1860 .44 Army Revolver (has a navy scene etched on cylinder). My wife did such a great job of house cleaning that I can't find the box with the instructions, and I haven't fired it in years. All I can find is the revolver and Pyrodex P. I remember there was a very specific instruction about the size of the ball to use (and one which should not be used). If anyone has one of these, I'd sure appreciate it if you could tell me the size ball and recommended powder load.

In my 1860 Army .44 I use a .454 ball and 25 - 35 grs of black powder (or Pyrodex P). I smear Crisco or Bore Butter over the ball, or put a lube pill (beeswax, paraffin) under the ball. For caps I use #11 Remingtons when I can get them, or #11 CCI.

Colt normally calls for a .451 but i usually have better luck with a .454 ball. As for powder 25-35 grs will do the job for ya.
