Hi - new here and was wondering if anyone can help identify this gun. Don’t know much about it, was told it’s likley from around 1840 and has been handed down a single family since.

Thanks!

Dan

Nice little shotgun! Looks like an above average example. Can we get more close up pictures of the lock and breech area of the barrel?

If it helps I got from a local antique dealer in, Cornwall UK. So suspect it was probably made in London.
The barrel is Damascus and goes from octagonal to circular.

The only obvious marking is the silver shield under the stock, apart from the ingravings.

More photos attached.

I agree probably Belgian although some of the parts could have been purchased there and the shotgun assembled in England. Looks like a hooked breach and I expect the proof marks are on the underside of the barrel. They would tell most of the story.

I agree - check the proof marks; you'll know instantly whether its Belgian or English. I have a very similar Gun by Colley - definitely English!
