Mike Nesbitt did a write-up on Bumblin Bear Grease in the magazine 'Muzzleloader' one or two years ago. Its main selling point was that it was designed for cold weather hunting. I purchased a tin of it and put it in the freezer at 0 degrees F. and it turned rock solid. But I also noticed that Track of the Wolf claims that their mink oil is good for all weather hunting too, but it did the same as Bumblin Bear Grease in the freezer. I have found that pig fat rendered to lard works best for me, even at temperatures below 0 degrees F. I tend to keep it on the heat longer than necessary in order to make sure I 'drive' all of the water off. It turns the lard a soft brown color. Some say that when this color change occurs, the lard will be softer at higher temperatures than lard that turns snow white, but I have used it to good effect at temperatures ranging from below zero degrees to over 90 degrees F.
