I'm another believer in kerosene. It works wonders at dissolving cosmoline off old mil-surplus guns and magazines. If it'll get decades old cosmoline off, it'll get new packing grease off.
 
i haven't cleaned it yet because of my work load. i want to be able to set down and do some shooting right after but when i do clean the grease out i plan on using kerosene. one of the old guys i work with said thats what they used in the service.
