Can I get a replacement barrel for the Gemmer/Lyman great plains in other calibers? I would love to have a 32 or 36 for the rifle. I figure since it's hooked breech there should be replacements. Or what about a barrel tang and fit it in?

They are available, but you'd have to bear in mind the weight of the rifle will increase because the barrel will still have to fit across the flats so there will be more steel in the barrel.

You won't find a small caliber drop-in for your gun but if you can come up with a spare breechplug you can have one made. I seem to recall reading somewhere the Gemmers have 1 inch barrels & as stated, that would make for a cumbersome beast. Probably be a dream off the bench & a nightmare in the woods.
