What's this about a mortar tender?

I think they advertise those cannons that way for legal reasons.
Some of the other companies want a notarized letter stating they are not responsible for anything miss use explosions etc.

I don't know...I don't recall Dixie Gun Works, or South Bend Replicas, making such a statement. ::

I found some realy nice tubes at www.brasswithclass.com but they're all reduced scale. They do fire, but I beleive the largest bore fires 3/4 pound ball. Gotta start somewhere right?! Anyways, they are manufactured in canada, so they're affordable for me. (low shipping cost,no customs)
They're called Canadian cannon company. I was wondering if anyone out there has, had, or seen one fire? How'd they do?
Their head office is in the U.S.A., so someone's must of heard of 'em.

If not, I'd like to get a 1/4 scale 24 pounder 30"x4" blued w/ man of war or garrison carriage. Something small, replace my coffee table. (Anyone rest their feet on this one, so help them GOD!)

I've learned alot from this forum, so I don't intend to buy anything without runnin' it by you guys. Darn neer imposible to find anyone interested in this kind o' hobby this far north. Even ran into a couple of veterans at the legion, they don't want to remember the past THAT clearly.

I wonder if brasswithclass is the supplier of Fort Ligonier? They have a wonderful collection of non-firing artillery pieces there (no vent hole drilled).

Yes, Sniper, she'd be an asset to any cannon crew! :agree: Thanks for the posting!

up until last weekend, I had little more than passing interest in cannons, but a buddy came into a civil war Parrot rifled cannon (10 pounder I think)and wants me to help crew it for CW reenactments. Going to artillery school end of this month. Might be fun. :peace:

Umm.... $425?
Hern advertises their "English Swivel Cannon" on their site
http://www.hernironworks.com/cannons.html

ITEM WEIGHT (#) SCALE LIST 2 to 9 10 or more
EnglishSwivelGun 90 FULL $426.05 $380.40 $332.36

So, has anyone around here heard of the 'group buy' concept? If ten of us were to band togethor, we'd save $90 per gun. So a swivel with dolphin handles (which I think are pretty swanky) would wind up being only $532.

To check out how this concept works, look at www.weaponeer.net

I don't think cannon would be a great idea for group buys. The shipping is the killer since they are heavy. Right now I'm finishing a Hern Coehorn mortar and the shipping from Idaho to Colorado was almost $1 a pound.

I did consider the swivel gun but was concerned about the mounting for it. I have good woodworking skill but my metalworking skills are confined to basic binding & welding. It would require a solid yoke to work well with a base to take the shock. That's why I used my tax refund on the Coehorn. I found very few people offering yokes. BTW, the fellow from Hern said you can order these in golfball size so free ammo is assured.

If you do consider a Hern gun, first consider if you like their finish. If not you might want to get it unpainted. I don't know what they use for paint but it is a darned fine job. I got a couple of barrels with a 'baked on' paint that you can remove with a hard look. Hern's paint took hour after hour with a sandblaster to remove. I didn't do the best job of removing the paint but I was getting tired of blasting. I then ground a few parts, did some sanding and filled and I like the looks better now.
