They've got the primitive muzzleloader hunt at Assateague Island National Seashore in Maryland again this year for sika and whitetail. October 10-18, with an all weapon muzzleloader season the following week October 20-27. Normal MD muzzleloading season is October 16-18, but AINS has separate bag limits.

Here's the wording for the primitive hunt...“Flintlock, percussion cap or matchlock ignition systems, a single barrel long gun that loads from the muzzle manufactured prior to 1900, or a similar reproduction of an original muzzleloader, .40 caliber or larger, using a single projectile with use of iron sights only”¦NOT inline ignitions models with or without fiber optic sights.”

That must be an interesting hunt. I have never hunted on an island before. I would like to do that once in my lifetime to say I did it.

Osprey, do you have a link for info on this hunt. I would really like to go to this hunt. I couldn't find it on DNR's site. Any info would be great.

Sure thing! Hunt is run by the Feds on the National Seashore, not DNR, that's why you couldn't find it on their site.

The link for 2008-09 hunting regs has all the details. :hatsoff:

I'll definately be coming down for this hunt.

Osprey if you dont mind, I would like to ask you a few questions.

1) are you hunting there this season and have you hunted it in the past?

2) what kind of turn out do they have, since they limit the number of hunters?

I'm just wondering what to expect.

Thanks Rich
