I just found a tin of Alcan G 12 F caps which I probably purchased 40 or so years ago. Were they a good cap? Or should I not use then? The tin looks almost full and in good shape. Any info would be appreciated.

I've used them but it was a very long time ago. I found a half tin a couple of years back and intend to finish it off. I never had any problems with them and have no idea when they disappeared from the market.

Believe I have half a dozen or so boxes of the Alcan G4F 4 wing musket caps. Don’t know if they are worth more as actual musket caps or as a collectible item, but they worked fine last time I used any. Your call on the G12 F caps. If properly stored, will work fine. Or hold out and sell later on to some crazed collector or whoever it is driving the prices up on this kind of stuff.

MANY years ago (late 50's early 60's) when my dad and I were shooting ATA trap (modern centerfire shotguns) a friend would assemble his own 209 primers from Alcan store bought components - that was the battery cup and the outside sleeve that went into the hull. Talk about "FRUGAL".
