I was fortunate to have found several caps at a local auction. To my surprise, their condition is great and they are mostly Alcan Co.

I recall these types of tins to be collected and not sure if these are quality caps. Looking to see if anyone has any experience with these caps.

thanks for your thoughts.

I came across a couple of tins of Alcan with a few caps remaining in each. They were #11s (green) and went back to the early 70s. They were what the LGS was selling at the time and I never had any troubles with them. I seem to remember $1 per tin. I do remember #12s being available but didn't have any need for them.

I'm still shooting them. Some from a box of ten, others from my father's stuff. Alcans, Goldmark, Remington, etc. Some are duds. Some you have to stick the "explosive part" (whatever that's called) back inside. More disappointing than devastating. 10's, 11's, 12's. Some are shorter than others, for revolvers I was told.

I have quite a few of the Alcan G4F 4 wing musket caps. Don’t know if they are worth more as actual musket caps or as a collectible item, but they worked fine last time I used any. If properly stored, will work fine. I am not sure if the Alcan were the older very corrosive type (think Pyrodex on steroids) compared to what we use today, but something to keep in mind if you are using them.

Some of the older ones are very corrosive, little extra cleaning will not hurt at all. I would definitely shot some and maybe keep one full for the collection. The collection that will get shot up when your gone, hopefully not for a long time though.
