Simple lube. But what I have found, not that it really matters much. If it gets a little off smelling, just simply heat the mix back up again and the off smell goes away...

I am thinking of having my lassie pick me up some wintergreen oil next trip to the store for a little added aromatics.

I found 1:1 to be too stiff. I have a thread here somewhere depicting my method of using plastic shot-glasses to keep my ratios equal. By melting my beeswax and filling the shot glasses to the same amount it acts as a mold and I have a bunch of beeswax "ingots" ready to make lube, decide how many, and while they remelt, fill the shot glass to the same level as the wax for your 1:1 ratio.

I'll have to look later, I think my patch/wad lube is closer to 3 oil:1 wax and sometimes half a part of Murphy's Oil Soap (depends on my mood) and the mixture I use in really hot weather and to protect metal or seal my pan in rain is around 2 oil to 1 wax.
I use either olive oil or refined coconut oil. The coconut oil seems stiff at temps less than 70°f but melts with just the warmth of your skin. I like it for lubing wads.

For Minies and other BP bullets I find the stiffer 1-to-1 mix works the best ... for me.

My mixture is more guestimated measuring.
My little patch tin with some patches lubed at home and spare lube if need be when I am out shooting. The patches fit in the tin of lube as well. I am sure there are better options than how I do things.

I have heard (probably from this forum) that canola oil has certain heat resisting properties and other qualities that make it highly suitable for our purposes. I'll have to try sometime.

Canola oil is what I use to season my cast iron. 5 or 6 treatments builds up a thick, slick, hard layer.

Generally 60% wax and 20% each of the other two.
