Was just doing a little research on the web. I typed "historical load for 50 cal muzzleloader" and this popped up. I wonder where they came up with that measurement, interesting.

    Happy so far

Refinishing a stock. I used Birchwood Casey rusty walnut as a base, sanded, re-applied, sanded again. Followed up with the same process using their walnut stain. I was hoping to create some depth, leaving areas only lightly sanded versus more aggressive sanding. Finished with Howard feed n...

Great to be out today (pic heavy)

Hit the hills this morning to see what I could see. I did see 3 squirrels and 2 cottontails, but nothing I felt comfortable with shooting. Unloading my 20 single I purchased from a member here!

Bought this one with thick varnish on stock and barrel, with heavy lathe marks. Refreshed with walnut stain, sanded the barrel and applied some cold white vinegar to start the patina process. Enjoyable and relaxing hobby!

1 part beeswax, 1 part olive oil

Simple lube. But what I have found, not that it really matters much. If it gets a little off smelling, just simply heat the mix back up again and the off smell goes away... I am thinking of having my lassie pick me up some wintergreen oil next trip to the store for a little added aromatics.

    Partial restoration

Purchased from a fellow member, little Jukar Colonial .45. Had a heavy thick varnish coat as described. I felt it would be a fun project for partial restoration. I used a brillo pad on the stock to smooth it out and flatten the shine, leaving plenty of product on the stock. From there I...

    Drawn up some targets

Heading to the farm in the morning, I will post my results. Smoothie 40 cal (purchased from another member here) and will try some 7 1/2 bird shot fairly close range. Should be fun, and interesting! I use my range finder for distance measuring. Holster in cross draw fashion.

    DGW 28 gauge

Found one, probably paid a little too much, but I feel like that all the time anymore! I did sand down the little clam shell patch box and paint it black. Originally just pot metal and shellacked? This one is marked 13.4. Can't wait to get it out and patterned!!
