    100 yards with a .32 cal

You may listen to whom you choose. The Montana barrel will shoot as good as a Green Mountain. When you are shooting at 100 yards, your best friend is velocity. I have seen a 100 yard offhand target shot with a .32 which scored 44 on the NMLRA big bull target. This was shot with a Douglas...

    100 yards with a .32 cal

It isn't hard to start or to load. I used the same combination for squirrel hunting and never had any problems reloading. Remember we're talking about a relatively minor difference in ball size and SOFT LEAD. What I am shooting now is a .36 caliber green mountain barrel and my best load is 35...

    100 yards with a .32 cal

You didn't say what the barrel brand is. I have had two different .32 caliber rifles with which I have fired many thousands of rounds in competition, including 100 yards. The first one I used had a Douglas barrel and it liked 30 grains fffg at 25 and 50 yards, and 50 grains fffg at 100 yards. I...

    Friendship Line Matches

To answer the original poster's question, most of the top shooters at Friendship are shooting .40 caliber rifles (Green Mountain barrels) using a .400 round ball, Teflon patching, and 50-65 grains Swiss fffg. Be Well, Bill

    40 caliber good?

If a .40 caliber is what you want, get one. It is okay for small game when you load it down and is also okay for whitetails with a hotter load. If you can't shoot a deer where it'll kill it, then no matter how large a caliber you use, it's still a wounded deer. I have killed deer with a .40...

    Mississippi Primitive weapons season

No, I have not. To be honest, I really don't give a darn. I hunt on my own land and I'm old enough I don't have to purchase a license; so, I just kinda do my own thing and use the muzzleloader any time a gun season is open- that way I don't get confused. Be Well, Bill

    40 cal fff load

Well, to each his own. Just about every offhand record at the NMLRA is held by people who shoot GM .40 caliber barrels. Most of the record holders shoot a .400 ball with Teflon coated pillow ticking that is .018 thick. This is propelled by 55-65 grains fffg powder. I used a GM .40 for years and...

40 cal heavy bench gun powder load question

H & H made some really good barrels and their .40 calibers were outstanding. If it were mine, I would start with around 50 gr. ffg, a .400 ball and .018-.020 patching and work from there. Nothing wrong with using ffg powder, but I would try that and fffg & see which works best. With a .40...

    slow twist 36

The Douglas small caliber barrels with the 1:66 twist were some of the best shooting barrels ever made. The accurate flight of a round ball is a function of the RPM imparted by the barrel. Any spinning object has certain RPM's at which it is stable and a round ball is no different. With any...

    slow twist 36

Well, I don't carry a mallet in my hip pocket. I have been using small caliber muzzleloaders for hunting and competition for over 40 years and I have never had a ML rifle that would shoot worth a darn with an undersized ball. The Douglas barrels were overbored .002-.004, a .32 actual bore size...
  15. B

    slow twist 36

Use a .360 ball, .017 patching, and 35-40 grains fffg.

    Mississippi Primitive weapons season

The new rules have passed both houses of the legislature and will be signed into law this week. Due to several large sporting goods stores raising hell about their inventory of single shot "primitive weapons", the new seasons will not go into effect until 2014. Yipee. Bill

    New from North MS (Tupelo)

Was the Tombigbee Valley Muzzleloaders club still active when you started? I used to go up to Tupelo and shoot with them, but they quit shooting sometime about 20 years ago. Come sometime and join in with us. As far as I know , we are the only NMLRA charter club in the State. Be Well, Bill

    Mississippi Primitive weapons season

Just a heads up to the Mississippians here. The legislature is in the process of eliminating the primitive weapons seasons in December and January on private land. No word on how the seasons on public land will be effected. The early November doe season will remain as is. I have really seen...

    CCI and me, it's over

I also have been using CCI for years with NO failures to fire. I have about 2500 CCI caps that were given to me by a fellow shooter who was having multiple failures on his rifle, a TC Hawken. I think the problem is probably inherit with a coil spring lock.
