    Bonafide south Texas vegitarian coyote

Haven't posted on MLF in quite a while, but I figured this would be a good way to start back up! Got the later shift for today, so I decided to go out and see what I could find. Made it out late, around 0615 and after light, so I wasn't expecting much. Busted twice by two sets of does, I was...

    Frame for a 1860 Army

I think 777 would be fine if you compensated for the quicker burn. Eg., instead of 20gn of BP, maybe 17-18gn of 777.

    what grease do you use?

I tried it once for kicks, and the first shot threw all the grease out from the top of the remaining balls, leaving almost nothing but a residue. Didn't see the point before, and especially after that.

    Grandson's first BP rifle

FWIW, my kids have never fires anything but .490 PRBs out of theirs, and it's always been spot-on. Of course, we all know that one barrel will love a .490 w/blue ticking, w/olive oil, w/68.4493gns of FF & 1/2 Goex. The next bbl off the line will only love sabots and pellets... :rotf:

    Grandson's first BP rifle

I think they're great starter rifles for kids, myself (they are the same thing as a CVA Bobcat). They're great mainly because they're: 1. Cheap 2. Accurate 3. Cheap You can cut 'em, modify 'em, kids can miss something while learning the art of cleaning BP, and on and on. All while you don't...

    carry a '51

You just met one who does. I regularly practice snap shooting, RH alone, LH alone, tactical reloads, RH only reloads, LH only reloads, and drawing with each hand. Both hands are the most stable, controllable way to shoot, no one will argue that. But if you're not practicing the above...

Every CCW holder should be intimately versed in the Use of Force model below, it's the knowledge most likely to keep you out of jail. I should try to find some training materials I can post (all mine are non-releasable).

If you feel you really need a CC weapon (and maybe you do), then save the $250-300 you'll spend on a '51, and scrounge another $100 and buy a modern centerfire first. A Rock Island 1911, which are good solid weapons, can be had for $380 NIB. You have to prioritize, and if daily/frequent CCW is...

    Shooting indoors

I shoot our short range (+- 25m) for fundamentals and pig zero. I go to my neighbor's for deer and distance load development. Take advantage to hone your fundamentals, once you work up a load, you know where POA/POI is; only periodic trips to a distance range are required to keep the feel of...

    So..I missed the target

That got me thinkin', I don't think I've actually ever held a hockey stick! Even while we were in North Dakota... :hmm:

    Penetration Tests

Awesome, man! I bet it's more like Caballo Pond right about now. Elephant Butte is apparently so bad, my dad was allotted 4" of irrigation for the entire year by EBID!! Good thing his pecans are old enough to be established into the water table!
