    Single Shot Pistol @ NMLRA

You can use any caliber. most people like the smaller calibers because of the recoil beining reduced and follow through with lighter loads is better. I have 2 50 cal kentucky styles that I use for the kentucky shoots and I like them. :hatsoff:

    Single Shot Pistol @ NMLRA

Steven the bare minimum is a cap revolver and flintlock pistol to get classified. If you only show up with one pistol and talk to the people there they will help you out to get you started. The pistol shooters are a great bunch of people and will be glad to get you started. Here is a link for...

To Wad or Not To Wad...

Like the other replies, wads help for two reasons. 1. If the ball has any gaps in the cylinder and a spark could get through to the powder then wads can ensure to prevent this. 2. The wad fills up the space in the cylinder to move the ball closer to the end of the cylinder, improving accuracy...

    "As issued" shooting at Friendship

Thanks, that is the answer that I am getting on my side also. I was hoping that I was wrong because the Ruger fits so well in my hands like a colt but has the advantages of the remmington.

    "As issued" shooting at Friendship

Does anyone shoot at Friendship and shoot the "as issued" event? If you do is the Ruger Old Army allowed? The Ruger Old Army that I am talking about is the one with the fixed sights that is like the Remmy 1858.

Now wht do I do with it?

I have a Trapper that I have shot competition with. We shoot 25 and 50 yards one handed, 10 shots per target. I added a little lead weight in the brass cap at the butt of the pistol to give it better balance and added an extra brass curl on the trigger guard for my pinky finger. I use 20 grns...

.40cal GM Flint barrel for TC Hawken

    Chainfire on 36 Remington

One thing 30 grns. in a 36 cal. is a lot of powder. I do not even shoot that much with my 44 cal. I think that might be one reason why you had the problem. Also do you get a ring of lead when you seat your ball in you cylinder? If not you might want to go to a little larger size ball. Also you...

    GM .40 barrels...patch/ball combo's

I use .395 cast ball, wad and 35 grns of 3f goex. I have .018 ticking cut in 1" strips and cut at the barrel. Off the bench it shoots 1 hole about the size of a 50 call ball. This is for the percussion and the 40 cal. flint barrel it shoots clover leafs off the bench, same load for both. Love...

    gm 40cal 38" on t/c hawkins

Yes, that is a 1" 40 cal. barrel. I think that it is an older type of GM barrel 28" not 32". I took it out to the range a week ago and once I got my loads and sights setup I was shooting 8s, 9s and 10s on a 6 bull target, offhand with it and a nice clover grouping off the bench. Love it, love...

    gm 40cal 38" on t/c hawkins

I have a 32 inch long, 1 inch across the flats 40 cal. GM dropin barrel for my T/C and love it. This barrel is the max size for me off hand. Heavy enough to reduce the movment when I aim, and light enough to hold for awhile. I would think that a 38 inch would be to much barrel for off hand...

Powder Charge Size - Charles Moore Pistol

One thing that I find helps consistantcy is use a wool felt wad over the powder charge. I would then try 15 to 17 grns. of powder and see where you hit then. Another thing is can you go to a larger ball maybe a 0.451 or 0.454 size ball? I use these in my 45 cal. and they have helped. :v

    CO2 Dischargers

I have used just an ordinary off the shell 12 gm co2 ball discharger and it works fine. Like roud ball says there are times that one of the three methods are better to use. I would be prepared to be able to use any of the the three methods that I can. :v

Got my Sharps! Help with peep sight?

Like OMGB stated what you need is a smaller or better yet and adjustable peep sight. What the peep sight will do is increase the field of view, or bring the foreground and background in focus. The trade off is as the aperature gets smaller everything comes into focus but you need more light to...

    Greenhorn wants to build...

Roundball will probably agree with me on this but T/C kits are great for first time builders. They are easy, and when you get done you will have a gun that will last you for your life if you take care of it. You can change the barrels and locks with no problems. Many people have talked about...

.40cal GM Flint barrel on order

I have the 50 cal flint but I love GM 40 cal barrel that is on my percussion. Yes it is heavy but I am a big boy so at my age right now it is not a big deal. I was wanting to put a 40 cal flint barrel on my 15/16th rifle. I am glad that GM would do that, when I get the money around that will be...
