I cleaned mine. Placed a dowel with blue painters tape wrapped around it so it fit very snug. Put a hook in the tang bolt hole to hang it.
With a block of wood on each end to rest it on. Then applied the LM on one flat with a cleaning patch soaked and ran one flat all the way. Do this on one motion don’t stop.
Rotate the barrel and do next and so on.
I hung mine on my shower rod with the tub filled with hot water. Wait he it was dry. Lightly wiped with back with a piece of old denim. And repeated till the color suited me.
Washed it down with a baking soda solution and hot water. Heated it up with propane torch till good warm the touch. Then wiped it down with a heavy coat of 30 weight oil. And left it for 24 hours. Cleaned the oil off with a clean cotton rag and applied a coat of wax. Printing the instructions out is a good idea.

Be thankful your son has an interest in black powder, my son could care less. He loves all the other types of firearms though. Beautiful job on the rifle, you just created a family heirloom.
