Is price the only criteria? Quality can be bottom of the barrel?

Get a rifle kit with an easily removable breech plug (ie, NOT a CVA percussion where it is all drilled together with the drum etc. as well)
Build it up and keep an eye out for a second barrel, of if kit cheap enough just buy 2 to start with. Have second barrel drilled out to reasonable diameter smoothie (reasonable will depend on across-the-flats measurement, etc). Swap rifle and shotgun barrels as desired, or complete the other kit so you have one of each.

Don't forget to take a look at the kits Clay Smith offers. I'm certainly happy with mine, but nothing worth having is cheap these days.

I don't think the Kibler Colonial would be a satisfactory wing shooting gun. It's going to be on the heavy side! Chambers has a nice fowler kit but once again, it's not going to be a breeze to build.
I think your best bet is to watch for one for sale or have a reputable builder make one for you.

It is not suitable for wing shooting imo. I use mine for small game and turkey. With the small payload and no choke it is a close-range affair.
Others may balk and I do not own one but I have seen them at Dixie Gunworks, that is the Pedersoli Indian Trade Gun. They do come as a kit gun. Wish you the best of luck for what ever you go with.

I’m working on a Pedersoli Bess carbine kit, it’s pretty fun and not complicated at all, some sanding and fitting and if you want some improvements to shape. Not hard at all. But not very cheap.

Caywood gunmakers have kits that I have been very happy with.
As to skills, I had experience carving ducks and making bows, '0" experience making or working on guns, I learned these skills along the way.
From trying to teach bow building to the rank and file, I found out there are three camps that can't make a bow; the first are the guys so afraid of failure that they won't ever start, the others are heavy handed and attack a bow stave instead of being able gently finesse it into a bow. This second group can't or won't follow instructions and have to try to do the work "their way". The third are guys that don't find hours at the bench enjoyable and get bored and quit. I love wood shaping and can do it for hours on end, watching those golden curls of oasge come up with my scraper exhilarates me.
I suspect the above limitations would apply to gun building as well.

Did not have that issue with my last order with them. Good to know. What supplier do you suggest the OP use?
pecatonica is fine, just dont use web prices. on the website as of now a large siler flintlock is $175.00 we could only wish.
