Yah. Me too. I'm good after the first 2 or 3 episodes. It still comes on the Western Channel every so often.
I have The Mountain Men in digital format, buzzed through it here a little bit ago. 1 hour 28 mins into the movie, Heston is holding and shooting a flinter....

Yep, watched it last night. Heston has a flint and Brian has a percussion. Didn’t notice that changing through the movie.
Got her all reworked to the best of my ability. Pitting still there, but I darkened it up using brass ager, so not quite as noticeable. A little rusting in the bore came out ok. Keeping an eye out for some high quality brass thumbtacks!
hey friend. dont want to bother you.im being honest. think i know what thumb tacking is but how do you go about doing it.what kind of tacs are used?

Be sure to predrill, especially if the shanks are brass and not steel. I see some in bronze on the Zon. Those would be subtle, but I have no idea if they would have been used in the historic period.
Yes sir, I actually plan to pull the butt plate and do a little testing there before do any visible thumb tacking on the sides. 45 year old hardwood is sometimes now very hardwood!!
Tim, I think it will be well worth your efforts. Those Investarm "Hawkens" are usually very accurate rifles and I wouldn't hesitate to modify one to my personal satisfaction.

These so called ornaments give the expression "Tac Driver" new meaning !
I think I prefer it's accuracy connotation in stead of the "Chichaco" look !

I think the 2 best guns in "The Mountain Men" are both flinters. One is the trade gun (looks like one of Curly's) toted by the Blackfoot chief and the other one looks like a Green River Rifleworks Leman that Heston's squaw uses to blow away said Injun chief at the end.
