I've been using 2F without issue , but plan to order some 3F on my next order any reason to get a pound of 4F also ? I don't shoot matches just plink in the back yard but do plan on hunting this fall and winter. I've read that 4F can soak up moisture on a damp humid day and cause issues, not so much with 2F or 3F. Just think with the 3F I could use as main charge if needed and get more use out of it rather than a pound of 4F I'd likely never get half way through.

In my muskets, anything with a large lock, I’ve used 2fg to prime the pan. 3fg works well, and I use it often, but I much prefer to use 4fg to prime the pan. There is a difference. You only use a couple grains to to prime the pan, and at 7000 grains to the pound…that’s a lot of difference.

Any bp will create soup in the pan in high humidity…. After the gun is fouled.
If the gun is clean and kept dry it’s not a problem…
A small bottle of alcohol & a rag helps keep things in check.

I use a pc correct glass bottle from Cracker Barrel…. PC being pancake correct!
It helps, plus I run a alcohol patch down the barrel every 4-5 shot if needed.
91% alcohol is your Friend
Personally I like denatured alcohol, but it can curve damage too certain finishes..

4F Goex or Null B (Swiss) in the pan. I have used 3F and 2F, but the finer powder is faster.

I started out this game using 4Fg for my primer and I still use it. Still have several pounds on hand so will probably not change my mind on that soon. That said, I'm not arguing with those who say 3Fg is just as fast, the 4Fg is just my way.

I use 3f so as to have one less thing to mess with - no priming horn. Any difference in ignition time is offset by 4f being more prone to "soup" up in eastern VA humidity. I still have 3/4 of a can of 4f should I want to retry it.
I have more 4f than I will ever use. I used to buy a case of powder with 3 cans of 4f to 22 cans of 3or 2f. I think I am on the second can of 4f now. I have started using 4f in my revolvers to use it up.

I prefer 4F and have always used that for prime. I've never had this "turn to soup" problem with 4F and this was in hot, humid Georgia. If the gun has been fired and the pan not wiped well it'll be slush before you even prime it again. Now I have used 3F on occasion and have no complaints about it. It works very well, but then 4F does it one better although I can't actually tell a difference.
I prime from my horn, unless I’m doing a duplex load with pyrodex.

4f. I’ve got a pound of it that will last longer than me so I’m gonna use it. Even made a little priming horn with a non-pc brass push spout. One push dispenses just the right amount.

I started with FFFFg for the prime in the pan. Then I switched to FFFg which I use for the load in the barrel also. Only one powder horn to carry. EZ peezy
I use 2f or 3f, depending on what's in my powder horn at the moment. I never use 4f. I've found it to be fast to ignite, but have had so many "flash in the pan" experiences with it over the years that I stopped using it and never looked back.
I normally use 4f in the pan. One day while squirrel hunting I ran out of 4f. I didn’t have my little priming horn full before I went hunting. I put some 2f (what I put in the barrel) in the pan. It worked when I shot my next squirrel. But I do prefer 4f in the pan.

FFFFg in my pans. ANY powder in the pan turns to soup in Ala if you dont wipe the pan after the first shot. Its just second nature to me. Hunting season included. Ive done it so much it only takes a second to wipe out the pan
