My my dad was getting ready to do some target practice behind the house one day, and an uncle on my mother's side asked him, "can you actually hit what you're aiming at with that thing?" My dad pointed, said, "see the knot on that fence post over there?", and casually put a bullet through it. My uncle was properly impressed and chastened - and after he left, my dad burned a bunch more ammunition trying to do it again. 😁

Lyman GPR .54 - split cards are 2 of 3 I split on 3 consecutive shots to win the shoot (15 yds off-hand)- Jack is two shots and I placed 4th (25 yds off-hand) . . . Some days you're on, some days not so much.

While I have had a handful of “wow” shots over the years, I really don’t count on that level of accuracy to be delivered with any degree of certainty. This target, showing a 50 yard round at both bench and off-hand is representative of what I expect when I’m on my game with one of my well tuned flintlocks. I’m predominately a hunter.

A couple years after getting into BP I was deer hunting with my .54 Renegade, 75 grains of Goex 2f and a PRB. Happened on a coyote mousing out in a good sized meadow. I dropped to one knee and started lip squeaking to try to get him closer than the 150 yards he was at. He came to about 90 yards and then got spooky, but turned so he was broadside to me. I rested my elbow on my knee and squeezed off the shot. Hit him right through both shoulders and dropped him.
