I took my Flintlock hawken woodsman with me last night, shot a medium sized boar 70 grains Olde Eynesford 3F no excuse 460 grain conical, the boar went about 40 yards. I really like this little flintlock. humidity was high so I cleared the pan twice and re added 3 F priming powder. I use 3F as I only want to mess with 1 powder.

Good job. Never thought about priming in the dark, so I'm guessing your great lights were important!
yes sir very important, if I wasn't using the lights I couldn't see them, I have a red hea lamp in order to see my open sights. I npticed condensation from the humidity the gun ws sweating, so I cleaned pan and an put fresh bp in pan. when the boar showed up, no delay trigger squeeze then boom. wasn't gonna take a chance of not going off or a delay

You do have some big hogs there. Why do you hunt at night, is that when the big ones come out?

When we talk of a big boars intelligence, it is among the smartest animals alive, many sources say humans are the smartest primates 2nd with hogs being either 3rd or 4th on the intelligence level. they can adapt to any climate hot or cold, they are omnivourous - meaning they eat everything and anything. Hogs sense of smell is second to no animal, they hear better than most animals and their eyesight is way better than mpst realize, especially when it comes to movement. it is said hogs seem to have a 7th sense to just know when something isn't right.
I hunt them at night as most 7 year old trophy boars are solitary animals they eat drink fight and mate. they claim territory just like any other dominate animal. when I hunt them at night, normally less wind less noise they wont see me as well. anything that tips the odds my way I will do. That is why I hunt them at night.
also the addiction of it being just you and and the boar. after the shot you have to go look for them in thick thorns briars snake infested areas its pure adrenaline searching for them after the shot

Way to go Howie!
I knew you could get it done with that flintlock!
yes sir im excited, I just got the no excuses 460 gr earlier in the week, sighted it dead on at 20 ysrds, as much rain as weve had I cleaned the pan 2 times to make sre it went off. humidity had my rifle sweating. definatly a positive experience. headed back out in a couple hours

You ever entertain the occasional trekker with a flintlock? Just passin through?
Could use a little pork hunting for the Mrs. and little ones. Don't want no charity. Would work for the opportunity to hunt with you. Splitting wood? Fix the roof? On our way to Californy. Heard there's honest work there.
There so thin. And you have so much. Please sir. Can I have some pork?
Man, what a life. I thought I had it up here in Gods country with the salmon and moose. But its one and done with the deer up here.
I wish I could. I wish I could......
