Next time I order lead from Roto Metals I’m going to order a chunk of pewter @deerstalkert. I have never fooled with it before, but I want to try pouring bolsters.
Go to ebay, it's cheaper. I just use wheel weights. When they get hot enough, I skim the zinc off the top. It's great when I can get stick on wheel weights. They are pure lead. Some are Zinc, they are marked 'Zn'. Did I mention these are free from most any car repair place? Semper Fi.

i lurk about in thrift stores and buy whatever they have in pewter, cast it into ingots and stamp them so i won't cast Round balls with it.
Any tips on identifying pewter items in thrift stores and junk stores?

Ordered round ball moulds for the 2 muskets I just got from Loyalist Arms.
0.672" for the 1825/40 musket on the LEFT. 0.735" for the 1839 Tower Percussion (aka caplock Brown Bess) on the RIGHT.
Obligatory musket p0rnz!

ETA late entry: ordered hand sizing dies for the musket & carbine.

Cleaned up my cap and ball 36 then cranked out a few loaders. Not any period correct but work well. Dump the powder load and chase it with the patch and ball down to seat. Also, whipped out another short starter. Had some extra sheds laying around. Keeps me out of these Texas honky tonks. Ha.

Do you use the skimmed off zinc to make bolsters and nose caps?

Learned that the RPL Small Flint or small percussion lock will fit the Traditions Deluxe Kentucky rifle. Started building a buying list for accessories needed for running a flintlock.
