THAT is the question....

My hunting buddy wants to get together for a squirrel hunt on Jan 23rd...
BUT that's day three of the Winter Turkey Season (Spring turkey = only shoot Toms but Winter = any sex, BOOM)
So do I tell him and we try for a turkey or two, and probably pass on a bunch of squirrels (which is ALWAYS the way things work out)...,
OR..., since there is the Spring Turkey season still to come in 2021..., do we go ahead and pop some squirrels... ???

And the ONLY way to do both is to shoot squirrels after bagging a turkey since cutting lose at a squirrel in the woods with a 20 gauge tends to give the turkey a good clue to go the other way...

The day before locate where them Jelly Necks will be roosting and get in there in the morning. Hopefully you both can bag a bird and move on to squirrels! Good luck with your hunt and be safe!

Azmntman's idea is a good one. I've killed loads of squirrels with .117 cal. and .20 cal. pellet rifles and they are completely effective, hands down. Most tend to be lightweight and they're all quiet shooting. Another good choice is a single shot .22 with cb caps but that's outside the purpose of our forum.

Instigate a feud between the squirrels and the turkeys, let them kill each other off, then you guys go in and collect the bodies. Yewbender's idea is probably more practical, but it's not as...shall we say...interesting...as mine. 😄

If we could instigate a fight between Turkeys and Squirrels most all our problems would be solved.....

Shoot them limb running foul mouthed tail wagging turkey hunt disturbing limb rats and gain the admiration of all turkey hunters for your sacrifice and pest removal efforts.

While most people throw turkey legs away, I love them. Throw them in a crock pot with a bottle of apple juice for 12 hours and the meat falls off all those many small bones. That meat then is used in turkey noodle soup. Much better than the dry breast meat, although that is good when brined and then smoked.
