So I'm sick of drooling at items from various sellers only to discover they are sold out...of pretty much everything. Oh, you can find some stuff but people are wanting supid prices for it especially on Ebay. Lee bullet molds for conicals or round balls are nearly impossible to find. Italian revolvers and side locks made in Spain also hard to find and lastly caps......poof gone. Powder is about the only thing I see mostly readily available.

I agree with you, Tex. I called yesterday to find some unmentionable ammo for my grandson at a shop I do business with and the are still out from before the election. Not even any reloads. This pandemic is putting the brakes on the entire industry. I guessing it will be a year getting back to normal and maybe the good ol’ days are good for good this time. And for me the worst of it is the prices on all firearms and related products are skyrocketing.

It’s not just firearm related items, I’ve been looking for a side by side to tool around the farm and woods with... most manufacturers won’t have a brand new one till March.
I’ve also noticed the lack of caps, Walmart put out thier regular black powder stuff for sale about two weeks ago, I happened to be there when the stockers were unloading the box to the shelves... I asked them about the caps, they replied “ if it’s not in the box... we don’t have them” ... well they weren’t in the box. I also noticed, oddly enough, that they completely sold out of thier inlines.Last time I was there, three days ago, they still had a lot of the stuff there to make them go boom. I’m good to go on caps, but I’ll be buying more powder in the near future.

Its pandemic/post election panic buying. People are afraid that they will not be able to get certain things, such as ammunition to name one, so theyre hoarding.

I was talking to the clerk at my local gun store last week. He told me that during a normal hunting season they would sell maybe 100 boxes of shotgun slugs. He said so far this year theyve sold over 700 boxes.

Its all panic buying. All I can say is, Im glad I stocked up on things years ago.

Over the weekend, I ordered a thousand # 11 caps from Basspro. 54.00, free shipping but had to pay the stupid 20 dollar hazmat fee.

Its very true.
A LOT of stuff is just plain out of stock.
I was looking for either a Lie-Nielsen chisel or a Blue Spruce chisel. No Dice till April (maybe)

I visited a sporting goods store in a larger city yesterday, Not sure why I was but I was surprised at all the empty shelves.

Its not just panic buying. On the supply side, companies can't get components because the suppliers are shut down or transportation is behind because of Covid. A perfect storm from both ends.
Indeed.
Supply surpluses at distributors who offer on-line sales were depleted due to demand, and lack of ability to go into stores to make the purchase...,

So due to restrictions on congregating employees at work stations, manufacturers could not replace what was sold at the rate it was sold. They also could not expand to meet any uptick in demand...,

So even IF a bullet manufacturer can get the lead, the employees are not allowed to be in the factory to make the bullets..., and the bullet mold factory might get the aluminum, but the machinists aren't allowed in to turn the aluminum billets into bullet molds... etc etc etc

With simple home necessities and even some foods hard to find, the fun stuff that we like gets bought up pretty quickly. Supply chains are disrupted and every one appears to be short handed. It will ease up gradually during the coming year as long as the hoarders exercise a bit of restraint.

The postal system stinks right now. They have lost a rifle that was shipped on the 11 of November and I have not received it or a refund check from them yet. I am also waiting on a barrel that is over a week late and the tracking number has not been updated in a week.
I tell you it's an exercise in patience.

Well I have been unable to find even 30-30 shells here for months. So I thought I'd reload, having bought a used kit years ago.. Nope no powder anywhere, internet search also negative. Remember the .22 shortage tho.....it'll end, or we will?? Turning off news....

There is a limit to reloading, the components such as powder, primers, bullets etc.are some of what's missing from the shelves.
