I'm an equal opportunity drinker, live right in the heart of the American Whiskey belt, and still prefer Scot's Whisky to Bourbon.
I get a little nuttsy over single malt Scotch whiskies. Looking at a shelf of them in the liquor store is not unlike looking at the two dozen flavors in the ice cream shop freezer.

I drink, TAYLORS PORT WINE. ANY ONE ELSE EVER HEARD of it? well I like it. it costs me $ 21.00 a gallon.

it is a whole lot better than SILVER SATIN, RIPPLE, PURPLE PASSION, ETC. HOWES THE WINE ? MIGHTY FINE, WHATS THE PRICE? 30 TWICE!

I certainly know, and have enjoyed Taylors. They go back to the late 17th century.

I have never come across such a large bottle. If we were talking about imperial gallons, a gallon is six bottles. The duty and VAT on six bottles of fortified wine would come out at more than $21! Apparently a German discount store is offering a jeroboam (6 bottles) of port for Ā£99 in the UK

I think that he is talking about Taylor Wines from Hammondsport NY

Yep, but I've never seen it in gallons. Bottom shelf stuff, not bad though, I do most of my wine shopping on the lower shelves.

"Hortons", a winery here in Virginia, makes a very decent ruby port. I should pickup a few bottles for the winter.

it is hard to find it in gallons in my state. I have to order it.

I do enjoy some Port from time to time. I have a vintage bottle that I keep meaning to open on a special occasion that I bought from one of the wine cellars in Porto the last time I was in Portugal. There's so many great wineries there that produce great Port and great wine from the different regions throughout the country. Portugal has been to known to make great wine for cheap, but I think their wine starting to get more popular and will in the end start driving up prices in the future.

Sorry, but I think I will stick with the Warre's and Sandeman I have in the cabinet behind the bar. I have no doubt that your recipe is "tasty" but having made my own, not too shabby, port from grapes grown on the premises here, even then I prefer the "real thing" as to quality.

Besides after all is said and done and you buy the ingredients, mostly the wine and the brandy, you can find a bottle of real port from Portugal for not much if any more, and I guarantee you will taste the difference and not be sorry for it. If you are a port drinker.

I was in Porto, Portugal a few years ago, my wife and I did a tour of the Sandeman winery, finished with free samples of their different products, my wife does not drink, so I ended up with her samples as well, hell of a day. !!!!
