Hello ALL
I'm a new (second-hand) owner. The gun appears to have never been fired and in almost new condition. I was searching the Internet and this Forum looking for others shooting experience, loads, bullets/balls sizes, etc. Found some good information that was posted a number of years ago. So I thought I would start this Thread in the hopes of receiving some additional, more recent information from others experience. The gun looks like it will be fun once sighted in. But sighting in both barrels to hit at/near the POA looks to be a challenge.
I understand that the barrels are not "fully" regulated. Thus the need for two rear sights. But some initial observations and questions:
BARRELS: The original specs show they are 7 groove rifling cut about 6 thousands deep. That would seem more inclined for use with PRB than conical bullets. Unless maybe the conical has an extra thick skirt (?) Some say they had better accuracy with PRB. Others say they had good luck with .577 conical bullets. It would sure be fun to shoot the heavier conical bullets - if accurate. Any bullet recommendations ?
REAR SIGHTS: I've read where some have replaced the two rear sights with a single flip-up (25/50/75) sight used on the Pedersoli 45/70 Kodiak version with good results. Of course that gun may have more fully regulated barrels at that price (?) Has anyone attempted this ?
What I would "like" to do is mount a single rear sight (not peep) per above and shoot the heavier conical bullets. I'm guessing you would need a snug fit conical to keep the bullet from sliding forward during carry or from recoil after one barrel is fired (?)
Any suggestions/opinions most appreciated. Thanks, Rick
