Ok guys, being left handed has its problems... and shooting a RH flinter is a big E.

So i started with

a Dunlap's maple blank, a 42" 40 caliber barrel, Chambers LH lock. As my mentor Ken (the gentleman in the white shirt) says " to build a LH gun you just work upside down and backwards. " You add all the parts together, bring to a boil, allow to simmer a few years while LIFE has its way with you, and here's the finished product.

Im thinking about making a 30gr powder measure so small game gets one scoop, and deer and setch get two scoops. I haven't loaded her yet, but primed her several times and watched it burn.

I'm thinking you let life simmer those parts into a very nice rifle. I may have wanted some more wood removed around the lock, but the end result is an elegant rifle, built to suit you.

Thanks Rifleman...That's many coats of Homer Dangler browning solution, then buffing with steel wool the following day. After several coats i accidentally left one on over the weekend. I feared the worst but was pleasantly surprised.

I was trying to emulate my Issac Haines' plans from TOTW, but this was my 1st build in YEARS, and 1st ever that wasn't precarved.

Im ready to start my next build...a left hand fowler using a Brown Bess barrel and L&R lock.

You must have rocks in your head. Don't you know that Jim Shokey, or Schocky, or whatever says the traditional guns "are nice, but just aren't reliable"??? And he should know, being a big T.V. hunting show star. !!! Enjoy. Hope she shoots as good as she looks.

That's what I meant. Its certainly something that doesn't need a correction. Its also just my opinion. Of course, its just my opinion that you have a very nice rifle and that doesn't need a correction either.

I've met Jim Shockey twice, both times at the DSC Convention. He was a very approachable and friendly man, unlike many hunting show "stars" I've met there.

He was very free with his time, even though there was a line waiting to shake his hand.

I showed him some pics of this very rifle still in progress and He told me that he wished he could go back to the days before corporate sponsors who told him what to shoot and all other aspects of the hunt. He seemed sincere.

On camera, I'm sure he has to pitch who ever is footing the bill.

I have heard he sold the business, and may no longer be living.

I got the Dangler Browning solution from Stonwall Creek Outfitters.
I spoke with i believe the son of the founder, and he was extremely helpful in using the solution and gun building in general.
They carry many products of Homer Dangler.

I'm with you friend. I'm also a lefty, and I will not fire a right handed muzzleloader. We are lucky in that we live in a time when we can find parts and build rifles and shotguns that fit our needs, rather than having to adapt to the right man's world. And to the critics who say they're not historically correct, and have low resale value, I say one thing, I DON'T CARE! I didn't build my rifles to please someone else, nor do I have any plans to ever sell them.

Your rifle looks beautiful sir, enjoy it!!!!

Thanks Sidney...i have Many right hand muzzle loaders... my 1st I built in 8th grade shop class. Like my modern guns...i have many of them right handed.

BUT, I decided a few years ago to get guns that are made for ME. This is the 1st LH front stuffer Ive owned, but don't plan on it being my last.

I had a member take me to school a few years ago because i want to build a left hand Fowler. He dressed me down pretty well, and finally told me what i should do is build a RH fowler and LEARN TO SHOOT IT LEFT HAND!! He said he's left handed and most his MLs are right handed.
I bit my tongue and didn't say what was on my mind...

I've been hunting with a 58 musket for several years, even though it's a RH. I enjoy the history of the piece, but musket cap shrapnel in my right arm i can do without.

HI, Homer is still with us I write to him and FRan now and then but I must say he is not doing as well as we would all like I visited with Homer a couple of times back in the 80', a very lovely couple and wonderful hosts.. Robin Hume

Im very sorry to mis-speak... I'm glad Mr Dangler is with us. I do enjoy his Browning Solution.
