Been pretty busy here with other life issues.

Talked to Winston and several other members of the NMLRA and there are hopefully some changes for the good in the future.

I think preliminarliy there may be some matches started this year that are NO Jackets and such but that is just through the grapevine and nothing in stone just yet.

The real story here is that the efforts have finally gotten the thing moved off of center and that is a good thing to start with.

I talked with Winston at Phoenix and he said there would be one or two matches in June at Friendship which would not allow shooting jackets.

He said if the mathces are popular, he would work to add more non-shooting jacket matches. He is not a supporter of shooting jackets.

rabbit03's work is paying off.

Are they going to allow teflon patches in the matches that the jackets are banned in?

runner,

Trolling, trolling, trolling all along.

Not a topic of discussion with Roland.

Why not call Roland and ask? Do you need his number?

rabbit03,

Maybe patches should be limited to old feed sacks/dresses with spit??????

Thanks for the report on you jacket crusade. :applause:

Runner,

My wife was reading your comments over my shoulder and I forgot what she had to say about Traders Row in Phoenix.

What she found laughable were those in PC clothes talking on their cell phones or those with a Blue Tooth stuck in their ears.

That is called 2008, Period Correct...... :youcrazy: :youcrazy: :youcrazy: :youcrazy: :youcrazy:

Rabbit's never ending cry about how the other guys are using modern props to beat him while he uses teflon makes me laugh a lot too! Nice to know this thread is entertaining.

:shocked2: I guess that's just a sign of the times. :slap: :shake: I would also think that would negate "ANY" right they would have to comment or chastise some one for not being PC. :nono:

runner,

As long as everyone has fun, that is what things are about.

We are all different and valuing diversity is important.

Does that mean that if I use a modern match grade barrel, impregnate the wood with plastic resins, bed the barrel with modern polymers, hide an active damping system in the butt, and load it using space age materials, that it is okay in the traditional matches as long as I don't wear a shooting jacket, do dress traditional, don't use a cellphone while shooting, and I have fun doing it?

If so, we live in different worlds!

I've never shot in nor attended any NMLRA matches. Had I ever shown up at one and seen guys shooting with shooting jackets, I'da turned around and left.

If that's how it's done at Ben Avery and Friendship, I'm happy to have been informed here rather than waste my time and money traveling to those shoots.

And, I'm not even a hard nose trad guy. Got no costume, guns are not all the HC, even shoot a conical now and then.

We can take valueing diversity to it's logical conclusion which would of course allow Richard Tubbs to show up at a match with his long range stuff :rotf:

Marmotslayer, meet Rabbit. Rabbit is really working to get the jackets banned in traditional matches. He has apparently made some progress.
He does support some things that I don't believe in. I believe that if teflon coated patches are legal, then sabots should be too! Actually, I don't want either anywhere near the line, and I would require a minimum level of PC dress also. That doesn't mean that what Rabbit is doing is wrong. You would have had to read all the stuff he said to me when we first discussed this subject to understand why I think his fight is funny. He used all the same excuses himself for the use of teflon. After being verbally attacked over the teflon issue, I think it is funny as heck.
Again, that does not mean that what Rabbit is doing is wrong in anyway. It is a very good thing! I just see the funny side!

Marmoset: Join the NMLRA and then buy a copy of the range rules. It lists all the shooting matches and the requirements for all of them. There are plenty of matches shot at Friendship where shooting jackets are not allowed. Many are in the primitive range, but even there they don't require people to be period dressed to shoot the program.

I have been a member of the NMLRA since 1969. Its a good organization. Like all organizations, it has its share of problems. Any time you have a group that does thing with volunteers, you have special problems. The first one is there are never enough volunteers to be selective in who you get to do what! The NMLRA has had a LOT of problems over the past 25 years. I have screamed, and railed against them just like Rabbit is now doing. You can't change things from outside an organization. You can only change them from within. There are folks like Runner, who just will not join any organization, but like to sit outside and pick and criticize. That is their right. I am a passionate defender of people's right to speak their mind, even if they don't have all the facts. But, if you want to see some change, you have to join. I am an annual member in the NMLRA mostly because I wasn't sure if I wanted to become a Life member during all of the past 25 years when it seemed that nothing right was being done. I am still a hold out, but renew my membership annually. And I try to get to one of the big shoots each year, so that I can visit friends, and talk to board members, officers, and staff. I do a little buying there, too. I have taken many people to Friendship, including several who are not shooters or into muzzle loaders. They all had a great time, and often ask me when the next event is. I have one friend who wants to go back with me, but the timing has been wrong with things involving his kids twice now. We will make it some day, because we will keep trying. Join us.

What are you talking about, Runner?
I have seen pics of your rifle. It is a modern fantasy piece that happens to use a piece of flint for ignition. Blow off!!!
Trolling right along as usual.

Staying home might be the wise thing to do, beside who need a $3.50 Shooting Medal :youcrazy:

Cooner, as usaul, you are showing your nice side! It is against the forum rules to attack others in this fashion. How about being a positive board member for once! I realize you have problems with that, but try anyway!
And yes, my 62$ including tax gun with the plastic sights is likely a fantasy gun. Never said it wasn't. Course, it kills the deer I point it at just dead as heck! I never asked it do or be more than that! Actually, since you started whining about it, I enjoy it more than I ever did before!
